Relaxing Guimaras

Guimaras....

Another unspoiled paradise.
Quiet and serene place.
Less expensive than Boracay.
The place where mangoes are truly a heaven's delight
Location for soul-searching and reflections

I've been here since 2006 and I keep coming back on this small island with unspoiled beauty and let myself mesmerize on its pristine shore and clean water... I went here last April and May 2009, May 2010 and January 2011.

And let the pictures speak for itself... and the beautiful spots around Guimaras

 The Jordan Port

The Balaan Bukid Trek (Balaan Bukid means Holy Mountain)
Best to get there: During holy week and summer. Highest peak in Guimaras island is overlooking the nearby Iloilo province. For photo enthusiasts, this could be a good subject with the breathtaking view at the top. Every Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, lots of people visit here to witness the re-enactment of Crucifixion of Christ and pray on the stations of the Cross up to the chapel found at the top of the mountain. .

The Trappist Abbey visit
Best thing: Trappist abbey produces best mango jams and other mango delicacies made from Guimaras mangoes.

The Altar

 The Smallest Plaza

The Raymen Beach Resort
Best deals: Overnight stay in this resort is affordable. Room prices is ranging from 700 pesos to 2,000 depending on the room. You can also try island hopping from different neighboring islands across the resort. Perfect for quiet night chillaxing with friends.

The Guisi Beach and the Lighthouse
Best thing about it: The old lighthouse is built during the Spanish period and going up will give you a bird's eyeview of the islands and beaches nearby. If you are looking for unspoiled night and affordable romantic getaway, this is one of my recommended places around the island.Guisi beach is quite far from Raymen beach resort and less crowded compare to latter.

How to Get there:

Guimaras Island can be reached via Iloilo. At Iloilo, you can go to Ortiz Wharf for boats that sail through Jordan, Guimaras. Fare is around P12-14 pesos. If you have vehicle you can also avail RoRo transportation. The boat ride is around 10-15 mins from Iloilo. For first time travelers, I recommend that you visit the Guimaras tourist information center located at the Jordan port. It is just a few meters away from the port. The guide will tell you some of the beautiful spots around the island and will give you tips on haggling for tourist fares. If you are traveling alone, you can avail the tricycle that will tour you around the island and if you are traveling in groups it is best to avail the multi-cab. The fare for the transportation depends on the places you want to see. You can check the standard fare at the tourist information.

People in Guimaras are approachable and willing to help or assist you if you want to inquire on scenic spots and hotels you can find on the island. You can also ask the drivers other scenic spots around the island. I would recommend the overnight stay at the island to maximize your experience in this serene place.
